Padma Bridge

The Padma Bridge commonly known as the Padma multipurpose  Bridge is a two-level road-rail bridge across the Padma River, the main distributary of the Ganges in Bangladesh. The bridge was inaugurated on 25 June 2022 by the prime minister Sheikh hasina.  It is the longest bridge in Bangladesh. The bridge consists of 41 sections, each 150.12 m (492.5 ft) long and 22 metres (72 ft) wide, with a total length of 6.15 km (3.82 mi). Construction of the bridge was considered to be especially challenging due to width and depth of the Padma River. The Padma multipurpose bridge is ranked 122 longest in the world  The main bridge is 6.15 kilometres long, while the railway viaduct is 0.532 kilometres long. The bridge stretches for a total of 10.642 kilometres with 41 spans attached to 42 pillars. The total cost of constructing the bridge with domestic financing amounted to Tk30,193 crore. The government provided a grant worth Tk300 crore and provided the remaining Tk29,893 crore as a loan with a 1% annual interest rate, according to Bridge Division officials. Since the opening of the Padma Bridge, transport services have grown along the 21 district  in the southwestern region, keeping pace with the increase in passengers. Since its inauguration, the Padma Multipurpose Bridge has generated approximately Tk800 crore through toll collection in one year. Data analysis from the bridge department reveals that on average, more than 15,000 vehicles have crossed the bridge daily.

However, the most significant improvement that will take place due to the Padma Bridge is the development of the southern region of Bangladesh. Like many opportunities, facilities will come with easy communication and transportation which will play a major role in the overall development process.
